Former Russom Student Gives Back to Elementary School

East Paulding Middle School student, Johnathan Sartain, completed his Eagle Scout project this summer.

A former Russom Elementary student, Johnathan wanted to give back to a place that helped him “Grow” so much.

So…he decided to re-design and rebuild our outdoor classroom. After a great deal of hard work and a lot of support from his family, troop, other scouts and the community, Johnathan was able to do so ahead of schedule!

Following his work this summer, he asked the Russom PTA to name the garden in honor of someone who was very special to Russom Elementary. Staff voted and it was an overwhelming response to name the garden the Dr. Libby Bell Outdoor Classroom.

5th Annual Rising Professionals Event

Every year, our work-based learning students from all five high schools participate in the Annual Rising Professionals event at West Ridge Church.

This year, more than 250 work-based learning students participated in the event, which is designed to help better prepare students for their post-secondary career. Al Duncan, from Al Duncan Enterprises, was the motivational speaker. He also led a session on personal branding. Other sessions included presentations on: Team Building (Shaw Enterprises), Financial Literacy (Regions Bank), Effective Communication/Social Media (Impellam), and Interviewing (Farm Bureau).

The students spend the day networking and rotating through each session. Students dressed for success and many received door prizes provided by generous local businesses, including the Regions green bike -- won by Kayla Loveless from Hiram High School.

Regions Bank has been the main sponsor of the Annual Rising Professionals event since its inception, five years ago.
