Alden was one of more than 15,000 entries into the 25,000 Reasons to Save sweepstakes from the Path2College 529 Plan.
Today, Alden was awarded $15,000 as the sweepstakes winner. His father says the money will help Alden achieve his higher education goals.
"We've been saving in the Georgia 529 Plan for both [of our] children's college since they were born, because as parents, one of our greatest causes is a strong education for our kids," said Tim Annis, Alden's father. "We see the benefit of a good education as being one of the greatest gifts, and responsibilities, a parent can provide, but costs have grown astronomically. Every little bit helps, and this stroke of good fortune helps greatly."

Dreams of going to college are great, but Alden has even bigger plans! He plans to play in the NBA by the time he is 17 years old. He says his "backup plan" is earn a full basketball scholarship, and then play in the NBA afterward. So where will this money go? "Syracuse University," according to Alden.Alden's school, Shelton Elementary, was also awarded $10,000 as part of the sweepstakes. Dr. Jeffrey Robinson plans to use the money to benefit his students and improve the school's facilities.

Mitch Seabaugh, executive director of Georgia's Path2College 529 Plan, says this is the biggest single award in the history of the Path2College 529 Plan. He hopes publicity of this award will inspire parents and grandparents across the state to start saving for their own children.
Shelton Elementary hosted Seabaugh, and other honored guests, to present the BIG checks to Alden and Dr. Robinson. Alden's class, led by teacher Stephanie Boisjolie, was there to celebrate alongside Alden and his family.
