Scoggins Students Compete and Win in UWG STEM Competition

Congratulations to the two teams from Scoggins Middle School which competed in the UWG STEM Competition on Saturday, May 2, 2015.

Logan Adams, Stevi Dycus and Andre' Brown

The competition involved four components:  team essay on genetically modified organisms, design and construction of a passive solar home, proper application of lab procedures, and a quiz bowl with questions specifically asked about current sustainability issues that we face in local communities.

The 6th grade students from team Direct Current; Victoria Coldren, Ruki Thompson, Blaise Scott, and Garrett Schwartz performed well competing against seven high school teams.

The 8th grade students from team Alternating Current; Logan Adams, Stevi Dycus and Andre' Brown performed well and won 2nd place in the Lab Procedures competition against seven high school teams.  This competition required them to identify rocks, minerals, and fossils.

We are incredibly proud of these students who dedicated an entire Saturday to show just how motivated students at Scoggins are to demonstrate their science, technology, engineering, and math skills.
